With Hands, Feet, and Lips… Worship the Lord in Service
Greetings in the Name of the Lord!
I pray this letter finds you well, blessed, victorious, and delighting in the Lord and His Word! It has been a busy two months in Nagua, full of crusades, work projects, pastors’ meetings, and a great sense of excitement for what lies ahead. Let me highlight for you a few exciting things that have been happening.
Almost a month ago, we were working together with Pastor Juan Martinez in the town called Río San Juan to improve several houses in a very poor neighbourhood. Much of the neighbourhood floods with water when it rains, and many of the houses fill with water. Can you imagine waking up in the middle of the night and hear water sloshing around your bedroom? And then having to wake yourself up and get everything off the dirt floor that can’t get wet? This is what many have to live with on a regular basis. With the help of a team from Canada, we were able to raise the floor level on three homes with a packed rock material called ‘caliche’. We poured a concrete floor in one of the homes, and almost immediately the family moved back into the house. Each one of these families was overjoyed to receive this house upgrade. We praised the Lord for the opportunity to serve in this way, acting on the love of Christ that He has put in us! I must confess that it is difficult for me to walk through those dirt streets and have a great number of people approach us asking us when we can do their houses, which also fill up with water. Saying “no” is probably one of the hardest things about what we do. We cannot meet every need, but must meet them one at a time, as the Lord provides. Please pray with us for the Lord’s provision!
Several weeks ago, Every Day Ministries was invited to a street crusade in one of the tougher areas of town. I was given the high honour of preaching the Word of God that evening. God was speaking to me about forgiveness in the parable of the unforgiving servant, and so that night I brought a message on forgiveness to the people. A stage was set up in the middle of one of the main intersections, and people of all ages gathered to sing along with the Spanish worship songs, and listen to the Word of God. It was an awesome night! It was not a long message, but a very simple one. God has offered us an incredible forgiveness through Jesus Christ to cancel our sin-debt, one that we could never pay back, but one we must receive by faith. We also must forgive each other, otherwise God will not forgive us. At the end of the night, brothers and sisters, it was a great joy for all of us to see people respond to receive Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour, to receive physical healing, and to repent of unforgiveness. Several people were also healed of their sicknesses! Praise God! He is the same yesterday, today, and forever!
I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all of your for your continued prayer and financial support – I could not do it without you. Please, brothers and sisters, be praying with us for the pastors and churches of the Dominican Republic, especially those of the Nagua area. The Holy Spirit is stirring the churches in a way we have never seen before, and we believe that the Body of Christ here is on the brink of a great spiritual renewal and restoration: one that will rock the nation and around the world. Please pray for hearts to be desperate for God and open to understand and put in to practice God’s precious Word.
We feel so strongly that the call has gone out to the churches, “Wake up, for the Groom is coming for His Bride!” We must be ready, trim our lamps, and encourage as many as we can to wait longingly for His return, actively sharing our faith with everyone we meet. Time is short, and the harvest is plentiful. “Pray that the Lord will send more workers to the harvest field.”
Your servant in Christ,
Ryan deWeerd
