Hello, amigos. Hope you are all doing well. I wanted to first bring your attention to a rather large blunder I made on my last post... I had commented that the immediate area we were in had “about 130,000 people and that 120,000 were believers” - that was a mistake!!! Sorry, folks. I should have checked my entry before posting... but perhaps the ambiance and heat of the internet cafe, and the fumes from the motoconchos got to my head. ACTUALLY, it should read as follows (and it ahs been corrected below in the previous post: the area has around 130,000 people and at most 10,000 people or so are believers. So the 120,000 I mentioned referred to the non-believers. Sorry again.
With that being said, God is doing awesome stuff!!! I mean, He always is of course, but it is so amazing to be right in the thick of it. We have begun exploring the countryside (on some rather bad roads), and have met with almost 30 pastors in the surrounding areas. They are all so excited that we have come (because of God's call) to partner with them to see Jesus lifted high in their country. Things are moving quickly and we are coming in contact with so many men and women of God, passionate for Christ's church, and for the lost, hurting, and broken communities in which God has planted them.
One of the biggest problems in our area, which we have only found out recently, is drugs. We have learned that an alarmingly high percentage of youth have tried or are involved in drugs. Please pray for the young people of the Dominican Republic, much of whom do not go to school or work. We are going to work with the pastors in these problem areas to bring the light and liberty of the Gospel of Jesus to these hurting young people.
We are all so amazed at how God is moving and feel so privileged to be a part of this amazing work. There is so much need... but our God is bigger, his love is greater, His hands are more powerful, His presence is more real... than any sickness, any hopelessness, any addiction, and poverty, any despair, any emptiness, any problem... and His grace – sufficient. With Jesus – we have the victory, and we pray that as the word of God is preached, and the poor are reached, that there would be signs and wonders, healing, a great revival among the Dominican church, and countless numbers of lost souls coming to know the Lord Jesus personally, as their Saviour and Lord.
May God bless you in all you do,
Ryan
